question about substrate color, lighting and geckos' body color

gothra Mar 17, 2004 07:57 PM

Hi everyone,

I've heard that the substrate color and the amount of lighting a gecko receive will affects its appearance; is this true? I bought a hypo tang from a friend about a year ago, she was bright orange when I got her (she's about 10 months then), but quickly in about 2 months time, the 'brightness' is gone and she developed spots here and there; and remained like this then. I talked with my friend, and he said he'd always kept her in a dark place and covered the side of her tank so she can't see other geckos.

Is this really the reason why she is developing spots now? since I give her about 12 hrs light a day (she does have hides in her tank). About substrate color, is this a factor to consider? how will she look if she is on a light colored substrate vs a dark colored substrate (she is on black now)?

BTW, how do you post multiple pics? tried the imc=" thing, but didn't work?

at the beggining it was a SHTCT and now it is a HTCT. To post multiple pics just hit return after you type in the link for the first pic.

The warmer, or hotter your tank is the brighter the gecko is, or less pigment. Maybe your tank wasnt warm enough and the black pigment settled...
