first time breeding, how many eggs?

gothra Mar 17, 2004 08:20 PM

I am thinking of breeding my leos for the first time, I understand that females can store sperm for a year, so how many eggs shall I expect for the coming year? I live overseas and it's difficult to sell the babies; I really wanted to keep all the babies myself, but if there are too many of them, then it'll be a problem...

Another question, some of my males are not eating much, I think it might be the mating season, if I let them mate this year, will they hunger strike again next year?

generally you will get 2 eggs every 2-3 weeks and depending on the size of the female and age she might only lay once or twice or might lay up to 8 or so clutches. as far as the males hunger it does sound like mating... males only have one thing on their minds and it isnt eating LOL... and they will normally do it every season. if you are noticing significant weight loss though remove the male from the females enclosure... and possibly take him to a vet for a fecal exam. normally mating males once removed from females will resume eating on a normal basis after a couple of weeks by themselves.
