You don't need to move them into the woods, you can if you want to but there will still be a population near the highway. It would really just be a waste of time to move them, unless you'd get so many ringnecks from near the highway that they would be established and start their own population where you move them to.

Snakes getting ran over is going to happen anyways, it doesn't matter how many ringnecks you move, there are still going to be plenty that are gonna get ran over. One of the main places where I go snake-hunting is in a car lot. It is about 5 feet from a street and I find DOR snakes all the time, there is NOTHING you can do about it.

Ringneck Snakes being ran over, that makes me bring up a story.

Back in June of 2003, around the 1st week, one of my good buddies Nick found a monster Northern Ringneck, around 22 inches in length, a true giant(not the biggest I had, but close). It ate baby and yearling Common(Eastern)Garter Snakes, 3 or 4 a week. But one day it like most of my ringnecks, managed to escape. I knew I wouldn't find it, I looked at different places in my basement every-once in a while, but never found it. About two weeks later, I was snake-hunting with some of my friends, as I was coming home, about 5 feet from the gate to my yard, there lay dead a freshly ran over adult Northern Ringneck Snake, the one that had recently gotten loose. That really upsets me, I would have rather of not gotten that snake, than see it DOR, and I just missed it, it probably got ran over about 5 minutes ago. That just kills me, you can try and relocate those snakes, maybe go there every day or two and collect some and let them go in a certain spot, but the fact of the matter is there will still be alot of ringnecks getting ran over there, especially if they are located next to a highway.
