i would like to ask the good people of this forum for their advice on how to identify this type of turtle...
maybe a comparison of heosemys leytensis and cyclemys dentata...
some info on their care would be greatly appreciated.
can't seem to find any info about this in the net.

A formal redescription of this species is being written right now and will be published sometime in the near future. Do you know anything about this species? There have only been 4 specimens ever recorded until very recently. The rediscovery of the Philippine forest turtle was just published a couple of weeks ago in the journal: Asiatic Herpetological Research Vol. 10, pp. 22-27.

The only specimens in captivity are at the Manila zoo (1) and in the private homes of people on the islands where the turtle occurs. So, virtually nothing is known about this species in the wild or in captivity. 2003 was the first time H. leytensis was ever documented in the wild.

I plan on making a trip sometime this year or next to photograph them in the wild.

that H. leytensis is quite different looking compared to the Philippines Cyclemys that it occurs in the wild with.

Go here for a Heosemys photo gallery at the World Chelonian Trust Website. There are 2 pictures of H. leytensis. You will also find many pictures of different Cyclemys on the same website.

The paper is in a journal. The journal is called: Asiatic Herpetological Research. You would have to get a subscription to the journal or get it through a University or other major library. Or from someone who has a subscription.

If you have an email address I could send you a pdf file of the most recent leytensis article which discusses its rediscovery.

They are found on Palawan and some of its satellite islands.
