Breeding Age.

I noticed alot of questions about what age females are ready to breed. Does anybody else go by weight?

Yeah, I go by weight. I try to hold off until female panthers are around 65 or 70 grams. Seems like it takes them at least 8-9 months to get that big, typically more like 10. What weight do you let them go at?

For first timers, I wait until they are between 60-70 grams. But after that, I record a baseline weight of before and after laying.

I was just curious because with some other animals, breeders go entirely by weight. I was wondering why we never see much about breeding by weight on the forum. Most of the inquiries are about age.

Thanks.

I agree completely. Weight is so much better of an indicator, since that really shows the size or the female, even more than the length does. Theoretically, a female could be quite small and be 10 months old, but just since she's 10 months old doesn't mean she's ready to breed. I think alot of people disreguard the size thing and simply breed at 8 or 9 or whatever months, since that's what they were told they could do, even if they know their female is small.
