Why is my Bearded so Finnicky.. (Crickets and feeding styles)

tigermist Mar 18, 2004 01:03 PM

All,

Ok.. I've been in this forum since last October and have had great input from everyone on how to care for the BD Baby I got that is now almost 7 months old...

My environment is perfect and has been setup per all the advice on this forum..All the UV requirements are being met as well as ambient temp etc etc etc....

But the lil guy is just not a big eater and he hates veggies and pellets.. I've even tried force feeding which ends up with him making grinding sounds with his mouth when I open it.. (Ooouchh !!)hope he's not stressed out from that experience

I had good luck once with him eating crix in a seperate cage on a daily basis, and then one day he just stopped eating in the cage and he only wanted out from the crix ASAP when placed in with them...

But this morning I threw some crix in his home tank and he chased them around and started eating... ???? (My Lil WACKO, I don't want to see him missing toes )

Also, I have been getting Wax Worms for him and he started off loving them but he seems to want nothing to do with them now .. I use to place in with the veggies and pellets .. He'd pick em out or wait until they came out on thier own and wandered his tank...

Can someone give me advise on this subborn lil guy to figure out how he's gonna get into a Veggie/Pellet regimen with all the stuff he's been doing..

Note: Putting insects in the dish hasn't worked.. He's smart!!
and Force feeding him the Veggies is stressing him

Should I starve him out of Insects ?
(He's gone 3 days once without em.. And still didn't eat is veggies/pellets)

I've also tried several Pellet brands and I got the REPCAL .. he still doesn't like em..

Anyone ever use CAN food with Luck ??

Any suggestions welcome...

First, I wouldn't attempt to force feed him anymore. That should be a last resort for an ammal that is too sick to do it on there own. It is very streesful on the animal. I think it is too young to take of crickets if it's not eating the pellets because of the protien needs. One thing you may look at is what type of greens are you feeding? I usually buy three different kinds and chop them up. Then I grind carrots up and maybe a sqaush. You may want to add some fresh fruit too. I have found that when I add more variety to their salads they seem to eat more. Mine especially love the carrots that I ad in. Maybe it is the colors that make it more attractive. I would make sure you are gutloading your crickets and dusting them and just keep putting the salad in there. Mix it up and see if anything different interests him. I have young ones that devour their salads, but for the most part they seem to eat more as they get older.
