Egyptian Uros

purduecg Mar 18, 2004 01:36 PM

Hello Everyone! I apologize if this is a repeat post, I have been off of the forum for some time and couldn't find what I was looking for by searching past posts.

I would like to get an Egyptian Uro, but am having trouble finding one. Does anyone in the states Captive breed them? If so who? Any recommendations on finding and choosing one?

I currently have a black mali named Archimedes, he has been such a great pet I have decided to continue with another Uro and I have always liked the Egyptians. I am aware of and prepared for the potential size of an adult Egyptian Uro.

Thanks for your help!

Elizabeth

that is an amazing mali!!!!! where did you get it? i love the ones with reduced pattern but i haven't seen one with no pattern, awesome!!!

breeders of egyptians....ummm, you may want to talk to:

doug dix-www.deerfernfarms.com (i'm not sure if he is breeding them this year)

lindsey pike-urotopia.com (has cb and wc)

also if they don't have any....you could ask them who does, they would definately know.

hope this helps

I actually got Archimedes at a pet store here in Lafayette, IN. I am embarrassed to say I really didn't know anything about Uromastyx, but I read up on them overnight and then went back and bought him. At that time he had green and yellow coloring on his back, but as he got older they faded. I originally thought he was not getting enough full spectrum light, but even though I increased the lighting in his tank, and took him outside more often his color still faded, so I think it was just part of his maturing. He is about 6 now and somewhere around 13 inches long. I have no idea how much he weighs though I am slightly concerned he is a bit overweight. That picture is a little old. He likes to explore, and watch TV with me. He is , sadly, not the smartest animal I have ever met and has a penchant for diving head first off tall objects like tables, counters, and shoulders, so you have to watch him.

Thank you for the kind words regarding him. I, of course, think he is great but it is always nice to here that others like him too.

Beautuful uro, and he sounds really sweet. They are so endearing, it is hard to not love them. Good luck with your quest, Trevor's advice is the same as I would have given. Post pics if you find one!

Regards,

Pam
