Has your opinion changed towards owning such a large snake? I personally feel that a snake that gets as large as retics or burmese pythons should not be kept by just anyone. The bottom line is that they can be very dangerous, as well as great pets. I hate being at reptile shows and seeing 14 year old kids carrying around the baby burmese/retic they just bought for $40. Chances are that the snake will end up in a rescue facility or neglected. Very sad.
Take care,
Eric

it is crazy. i had it for 7yrs and it was a trusted pet. it was used to cleaning, soaking, and so forth. then she said nooo!!!
blip, that was all i got. i had surgery because she severed my tendons and slashed through my arm. no you should not keep them! yes my thinking has changed !! i still want another but, no !!

I think we all can agree that 14 year old kids shouldn't have them, but I don't think NO ONE should have them. Dogs can give you bad bites and they're still legal. But people who do keep big snakes should have good medical insurance.

I think it is more a question of WHO should have them. I don't feel that no one should have a retic/burmese. Some people are qualified to keep them. About your dogs comment: I feel the exact same way about dogs, some people should be allowed to have them, some shouldn't. I think that 9 times out of 10 a dog bitting someone all stems back to owner neglect or mistreatment or even that the owner has trained the dog to be aggresive. I guess the bottom line is that there are alot of idiots out there.
No offense intended towards anyone on this forum.

I would love to use that photo when new people to the hobby want to get a retic right off the bat. Glad you were ok.
Thanks for sharing.

wow,... thats alot of cash for 25 stitches.... what else had to be done?

You might think twice about posting pics like this on public forums. It just gives more ammunition to those who would like to see snakes banned as pets.

Not saying they are'nt friggin awesome though! Just dont want them in my house any more lol. Ill go to the zoo or a museum or another friends house for that matter to gaze upon their beauty and someone else can clean up after them lol.

Andre,
Glad you are alright. I do have to agree that a bite like that can be a nasty thing. People that do not know what they are doing with big snakes should not handle them "PERIOD"!!!
I know what I am talking about. I have a Burmese and have got bit as well. It was a good thing that it was'nt as bad as yours.
I have 17 years of experince with snakes and find that everyday is a new learning experience. My goal is to get and raise Retics,Boas, and Burmas.
Thanks
Darkangle
