Fecal positive for hookworm

ShannanD25 Mar 18, 2004 03:24 PM

I recently received a shipment of Leos. The one, a patternless, was very thin and upon taking in a fecal to the vet she is testing positive for hookworm. The vet wont dispense meds unless I bring her in and I want to treat the others in the shipment as well, so that means a total of 4 office visits for an exotic animal at $55 each visit. Last time he wasn't so sure how to dispense meds in a little Leo I had so even that makes me leary.
Any advice?

DO NOT take your leo there unless it is a LAST resort!!!!!!!!! You can find a certified herp vet on www.anapsid.org If there aren't any close to you, try to see if you can give your leos the meds...I'm sure some1 on here can tell you how...? the reason I say this is not to tell you TO do it yourself, quite the contrary, I'm just saying the vet isn't the one who will care if the leo dies(unless, of course, you sue... ), so you would probably be more careful than a vet, even if neither of you know how to administer shots to leos. If you do decide to give it to your leos yourself, RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH...and ask questions, LOTSA questions....ok? Hope this helps!!
