it was purchased a while back but hasn't grown as much as suspected. Anyone know what the average adult lenght is? it may be a male so that may be why its on the small side.

Graptemys gibbonsi is a very slow growing turtle. If you have a female you probably won't notice any growth at all, even over a couple of years time. A female will not be sexually mature until she is about 17 cm carapace length and it will take her 10-15 years to get that big. They max out at about 23 cm. Males will grow a bit faster and will reach about 12-13 cm in just a few years.
It is very easy to tell the sex of these guys even when they are small. Definatley by the time they are 3 inches, you can easily distinguish the sexes.
I have some subadult female gibbonsi that have only grown a few millimeters over the past 3 years.
