Question about cage cleaning

ta2edskin Mar 18, 2004 06:08 PM

I have a question about cleaning cages with bleach and water.I am going to be cleaning my cages every day because one of my dragons has coccida.I am wondering how long I need to let the cages air out before I put them back in? Plus will it be ok to clean it with the bleach then spray it down with water and wipe it dry?I cant take it out side to wash it out cause it is made of melamine and is heavy.Plus will it be ok to clean the tank and let it air out in the same room as the beardies will be in.
Thanks Steve

You'll want to mix the bleach with some water. 10:1 ratio. You'll want to spray the bleach on the enclosure and let it sit there for 10 minutes or so. Rinse really, really well and let air dry until you can't smell any bleach left. No, don't let it dry in the same room as your beardie and I'd even open a window in the room you clean it in if you're going to be spraying it. Just wait until you spray and you'll know what I mean.

I don't know if this would be acceptible but you could probably use Nolvasan instead of the bleach and the fumes wouldn't be hazardous. I just can't tell you if it's acceptible for the cleaning method you are going to be doing to get rid of the coccidia. You may want to post again about this.

Good luck!!!!
