Need help with my gecko!!

cutiepie Mar 18, 2004 11:24 PM

My coleonyx mitratus Cheech, who may be a girl for all I know, has a white spot on his belly, on the right side. It is rather round and firm to the touch and sticks out very slightly when he is standing up. I'm starting to wonder if in fact he is a she and she is gravid for the first time. Cheech lived with Ozzy, who is a male coleonyx mitratus, for about a month or two before they were seperated last month. The spot is the size of a pencil eraser. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. He has been eating and pooping, as well as acting pretty normal and does not have sand or loose material for substrate.

If you keep them with an undertank heater directly under glass or a heat rock, calcium and other minerals can form a stone-like cyst. The humidity and hydration of the gecko is probably low also. It really does not sound like an egg. Can you post a picture?

I don't really have a place to put a photo on the web and link it to here, but I know that Cheech does have a UTH and a glass terrarium. What should I do if it is a cyst that has developed?

The best choice is to find a vet who is qualified or specializes in herps. It may be difficult to find a good one, but for most herpers it is a good idea to establish a place to take the animals when all else fails.

Okay, Thursday, Cheech is heading to the vets. The swelling has gone down and he pooped, so I'm hoping it'll be easily treatable. I'm thinking maybe a parasite may have caused the cyst, therefore I am getting a fecal as well. I'll be sure to post an update.
