Theres a lot of info concernign exactly your qs.
Male tokays have more pronounced pranal poresn than females, are bigger with broader heads and only males do have the typicla eck-oo call.
Differences are only easy to see in fully adult specimens, since pores of females are more visible than in many other gecko species.
Breeding will occur atomatically with fuly adutl animals in an apt setup.
Breeding success is related to feeding. The more you feed, the more eggs you get. You can´t overfeed tokays. The most obese tokays is the most agile specimen and the best breeder. An exception in the lizard world!
Tokay need a long time to acclimate. So after buying or even after moving to a new tank, all breeding activities almost always stop for some weeks or months. WC animals can even need more than a year before they feel safe enough to breed.
So be patient.
Hope that helps
Ingo
Thanks for your help. it sounds like i have a male based on your description he is quite large and eats 3 to 4 pinkies a week and quite a few crickets he takes frozen pinkies from my hand, and yes he has got me several times but never bad. my only other question is do the have the preanul buldges like it some of the other geckos that i have seen. i will try lokking for a famal and hope for the best thanks again
Sorry typo in last reply it 3 to 4 pinkies a mounth usually one a week
I have a single female, and she's enough for me. Remember they have a long lifespan, and consider the huge amount of space required to house two tokays: At LEAST, bare minimum, a 100 gallon tank.
I derive much pleasure from my single tokay-she trusts me, and jumps on me from time to time, I can pet her, handfeed her, and not one single instant does she ever show threats. But rather enjoys the attention! She has an inclination toward being shy, but she wants her daily dose of love and attention too. Or she will turn dark if I forget! And she was wild captured when I bought her.
Doesn't sound like a typical tokay-but consider the enormous potential your single tokay has, sometimes improving what you already have is better than getting more....
But if you still want to breed yours, you need to dish out a LOT of money on a HUGE fishtank, secure tank top, because they need a stress free environment.
