BRB caging question?

Uncloudy Mar 19, 2004 05:31 AM

I have a brand new Boaphile 4'L x 2'W cage for my BRB. Right now she is about 3 ft long and I was wondering if I should put her in her permanent home or should I wait another 6 months to a year until she is bigger. I still need to hook up a thermostat to the new BRB cage so it will be at least another month. Also, I am going to be changing substrate from moistened shredded coconut bark, which my BRB loves to burrow in, to newspaper in the new Boaphile cage because its 4' x 2' and only like 12 inches high which would be a problem cleaning. Will my BRB react to the newspaper substrate badly or possibly be stressed?
Oh and I must say in my opinion BRB are they most awesome boas the Great Spirit ever created. Bella, my BRB, for me has been nothing but a joy and delight to care for. Not once have I had a tempermental or nippy BRB like what some have written about BRB in all the research I did before I got her. Unlike some other boas my friends have I can pick her up out of her feeding container without any fear a bite. I am biased, but the BRB beauty is unsurpassed by all other boas. I asked the question above because I want the best captive environment possible for my BRB and want her transition from the old cage to the new cage to be as good as possible.
Any responses would be greatly appriected.
Thank You,
Unclouy

In my Opinion:

You can do as you please, so long as there are hides in the Boaphile she should be fine now or in 6 months time. It sounds like you know what are you doing and now it just depends on whether you want the boaphile set up today or later.

Good luck.

i would keep her where she is until you have the thermostat set up in the new cage. newspaper is a good thing. just make sure she has plenty of hiding options when you switch her over so she doesn't miss the old substrate. other than that, sounds like her new home will be a fine one!

best wishes, chris o
