If you are using perlite and following the directions from Albey's Cool Reptiles site you won't need to put water in the bottom.

I just got my hovabator as well.
The incubator is made for chicken and other fowl eggs, so the directions are for those kinds of eggs.
You'll be incubating your leos in some medium (say, vermiculite) in a closed plastic container. Your humidity issues will start and end inside the plastic container.
Other than basic setup and operation, ignore everything it says in the hovabotar instructions.

wait I just read the other 2 post if this is so why do we need the hovabator, the way it sounds like is the container the eggs are in itself is the incubator it just needs heat. Could i just put the lone eggs in the hovabator? why does everyone use the containers and moist medium if the incubator will do the job?

Using the containers allows you to control the humidity of the eggs. Yes, you can use the water holders in the hovabator to control humidity, but it is easier to use albey's techniques since you never need to add water, just open the container for air exchange once a week. The hovabator just supplies a place to accurately control the temperature.
