Seriously need help

CaptainHook2 Mar 19, 2004 11:18 AM

I guess my last message "Constipation" sounded like a joke. I seriously need some advice with this. Here it is again.

Need help. These guys crap out a white portion and a brown portion. Does there digestive system split what the're going to discard from 2 separate organs? The reason I'm asking is I haven't seen mine crap out brown in awhile, only white. I've used ratlax once but I wasn't sure if it worked. I saw a more brown than usual stain in the substrate, maybe diaharrea but he hasn't pooped brown in about a month, only white!

Here is a link that has the same basic question you asked.

The white portion is urates (basically a concentrated urine) while the brown is the actual feces. A bath in warm water will often help a constipated snake go to the bathroom - probably a combination of the warmth and movement. It isn't totally unheard of for snakes to go a month or more in between bowel movements, but a warm bath isn't going to hurt anything.

Good luck.

I've tried to warm water soak, even left him there in peace. I'll put him in the water for about 10 minutes, then mess with him trying to get him to use his muscles near the rear area to maybe soften whatever is inside, then leave him alone for 30 minutes or so.

He's almost 9 feet, about 18 pounds and I'll feed him roughly 30 oz's (3 large rats, not jumbos) every 2 weeks. Some say he's to skinny but I don't want to overfeed him. Does anyone have a mathematical equation for how much to feed them? I've read about KCals but that confused me.

There may not be anything wrong and I just am ignorant to this area of keeping a burm. Need more input.
