Question on Feeding

vondrago Mar 19, 2004 11:21 AM

My BP had a bad shed 4 weeks ago and then he just shed this week and it was a great shed. But he seems very aggressive. He gets very jumpy when you put your hand inside the tank. He also sometimes darts out into the air almost like a strike. He hasn't eatin since before his bad shed.

I am going to try to feed him tonight but I was wondering if this is normal behavior because he hasn't been handled very much over the past month and could be hungery?

Well, the first problem you need to fix is the bad shedding. As soon as he turns blue, I would soak him for an hour every nite in controlled water (at least 85 degrees).

Then I would try to hold him a little more often. Dont hold him for a long time all at once since he is not used to it, instead, hold him for 5 minutes every other day, then if he is eating and everything ok, move it up to 5 minutes every day, then 10 and keep moving up until he is used to you, and shows no signs of agression.

Before the bad shed he never was aggressive. We would hold him almost every day. With the bad shed his eye caps didn't come off for a long time after the shed and basically he was blind. But now that he has shed completely and seems much happier and he can see he is more aggressive.

Thanks for the advice. Will keep you informed as to whether he eats tonight.
