Looking into Westrom MVB with electiric seperate ballasts. Few questions about them.

Mattman Mar 19, 2004 03:05 PM

I'm looking into the Westron companies electric separate ballast 60 watt UVB bulbs. I wanted to use these with the babies I'll be raising this season to see how they work for me. Does anybody have any info on these bulbs, how they worked for you, how far do you recommend to keep them from the basking spot as all test studies I've seen show these bulbs blowing away the competition in UVB output for nice long lengths of time with minimal loss of UVB. Unlike some of the self ballast mercury vapors that seem to equal the output of a good fluorescent if put at the proper distance of closer then 10-8 inches from the dragons after the first two months of use. I treated these self ballast mvbulbs like gold, and followed all the companies recommendations, and still had many short lived bulbs. Has any body else had problems with MVB blowing prematurely? Also the Westron bulb being made to use it is supposed to prolong the bulbs as two filaments are not used in there construction, and that being the down fall for many self ballast UVB MVB. They also show a much slower overall deterioration over time. If anybody is interested with the bulb I'm talking about www.Myiguana.com Is now selling them, and the yahoo uvb meter group has tested quite a few of these with outrageous outputs of uvb. Need some opinions please about them especially from anyone with personal first hand knowledge of them, Thanks as always for any info. Matthew

I don't know first hand either....but if you find anything good out that isn't posted here....please pass it on to me.....I use the 100 watt MVB (self balasted) with my babies bins, but it does limit my stacking bins more to keep from getting too hot....a 60 watt would allow me to cut a couple of inches and thus allowing an additional tub in height....

Thanks in advance for any info you share Matt!
