Question about respiratory infections

trevoro Mar 19, 2004 06:12 PM

I've read that gaping and puffing the beard are 2 symptoms of a respiratory infection. I also know that these are also normal behaviours of a bearded dragon. What is the difference between the two?

I'm asking because I've recently noticed my beardie gaping more than normal. Most of the time it is during basking which is normal, but I've also noticed it recently when he isn't basking. No other symptoms of a respiratory infection are present at this time.

As a precaution I'll be taking him to the vet at the beginning of next week. If anyone can give me some information in the mean time that would be great.

Thanks
Trevor

It's when they gape constantly that there may be a problem. Other signs would be labored breathing, wheezing or a popping sound.
If you think this may be the case, up the temps a bit if possible until you see the vet.
