Fair Trade?

Guys, I have been exploring the wonderful world of herps for a year now and in my experience I have had some Corns as well as my small collection now that I have had from the beginning.

I recently acquired the CRB about a month ago and love everything about it.

I recently also acquired a pair of Sugar Gliders which are a fun handful to keep.

I like to handle all of my animals once a day and want to remain with one respectable specimen for my collection that will be tame and tolerant of handling.

My resources are limited and while I have been interested in a BRB for a while, the only way for me to accquire such a snake would be to sell my BPs, my BCI and maybe even my CRB.

I am thinking of downsizing my collection to just one or two snakes as opposed to 4.

Would any of you give up 2 BPs, 1 BCI, and a CRB to keep a BRB? I am afraid that once I get it, I may not be satisfied with it as my BPs are the most fantastic looking normal specimens I've ever encountered and my BCI is absolutely AWESOME.

I know a BRB is essentially a good looking CRB and I like the fact that it needs more strict adherance to humidity/temp requirements. This is definitely a plus.

I tend to fall succeptable to trying different snakes to see which is most compatible to me (I don't buy and sell, I just buy...)

Is a BRB the right snake for me?

I would love to hear anyone's experiences with multiple snake species and which are their favorties...

Thanks.

you could probably sell your ball pythons out of your local paper and get enough to purchase your brb. it sounds like you really like your bci alot...if that is the case, i wouldn't part with her. i don't know where you live, but if you could attend a reptile expo this summer, you might be able to find for around $100. that's only $10 a week if you start saving now!

i think it's hard to go wrong with a brb if you love boids. they are (imo) one of the most beautiful animals on the planet...and they adjust well to captive life. i hope you are able to get one.

They are all wonderful snakes. I would try to keep them unless you just don't have an interest in some of them. They all great snakes with their own, special uniqueness. Perhaps you could save up for a BRB, there is no hurry, they are always available. (I've got one BRB, other pythons, anaconda..). Getting rid of one of mine would be like deciding which kid to give up for adoption (well, almost).

Personally, I love snakes because they are relatively easy to keep, require low maintenance (but I take mine out often), no problem if you go for a 4 week vacation...feed those flying squirrels or whatever to the snakes! Just wish the darn things would eat lettuce instead of animals! I had a beautiful huge Mollucan Cockatoo once, and, for some strange reason, I decided I needed a $800 HK93 rifle, so I sold the cockatoo. Regretted it ever since.

I know I couldn't do it, I get very attached to my herps, especially if I've had them awhile.
For example, I have this 'white elephant' turtle who is very expensive to feed and requires a lot of water changes and conditioning, and will eventually require a 200 or 300 gallon enclosure. I found a guy willing to trade me a few specimens of a type of snake I've been looking for FOREVER (4 years!) for this turtle. There's no logical reason I shouldn't do this, especially given that I could breed the snakes and make some $ but the turtle will always be a financial drain... but... that's my BUTTERCUP we're talking about! I also couldn't even think about trading my Western hognose for a tricolored hog, even though they're 10 times cooler.
But you can probably get a BRB for $120 at a show. Not the best looking BRB, but a BRB. So I'd either trade the CRB toward it if you don't want both, or just save your pocket change.

Some good pointers...

If I saved $10 a week I could infact pick one up at the show here in June (only one in my area for the year). And true, giving up one of these guys would be living pawning off a child...

Unfortunately the question I was trying to convey got skewed in the process.

If you had to live with JUST one snake, what would it be?

Have any of you ever gotten a BRB and said "Finally, I am content with my collection of herps" or will it be another one of those "OK got that one, what's next?"
Space is tight, money is limited, time is restricted, but my ability to care for these animals and treat them right is not.

Thanks guys.

i love my brbs...but i can't say there is one snake i could keep exclusively and be content. if i could, brbs could very well be that snake...but if you are suffering over the idea of parting with the ones you have, maybe you should just keep one of them...

just a thought. good luck.

to see if something else was more to my liking. (This is true for animals, but not everything in my life.)

I would wait til the finances improved and then just add a BRB.

Actually, you CAN find a very pretty BRB for not a lot of $$. I ordered a baby one from BobClark.com and it arrived healthy and gorgeous and shipped for $180.

I know how it gets though...you get into it, see ANOTHER cool snake, do some research, decide you GOTTA have it, and then voila: new pet. We (my boyfriend and I) very bad this way with my saltwater fish. Started out with one tank, then added another, then another...and ANOTHER. Now we have four tanks ranging in size from 75g to 180g (including a fat reef tank, filled with pricey little corals that are easy to kill). And our BRB (which we got a few months ago) is in a cool custom cage that we just HAD to have. We just got a ball python. I have a Husky. My boyfriend has a Rottie. And he's talking about tree snakes now and ANOTHER moray eel to add to the mini-zoo we have! We've blown a boat load of $$ on my/our pets (and no, we're NOT flush with cash!)But I wouldn't trade any of them. We love them all, even the little ones that swim and slink!

If money is the problem, just start saving. BRBs will always be there for you when you finally have the dough Got anything you can sell on eBay? It's how I got my custom BRB cage!
