hi, my female veiled chameleon lives in a 4 foot by 2 foot wooden cage with proper lighting and a drip system for water. She also has a huge potted plant in the middle with lots of vines and branches for her to climb on. Someone had told me that she might be pregnent coz her body was a little big but she has never been with a male so the bottom of her tank in covered in sterilized sand. When i came home tonight she had almost buired herself in her potted plant. Can anyone tell me why? The only thing i can see is the top of her body. i'm scared and i don't know what to do!! please help!!!
thanx,
sharon

souns like she is digging to lay eggs. just leave her alone until SHe is done. that means do not let her see you peeking at her, no opening the cage, nothing. AND i think tyler may be able to help a bit more on this one. he is a breeder and has gravid female.

Assuming everything is right about her care, your female is trying to lay infertile eggs. If she's digging, it's probably a good sign, at least she's not egg binding and going downhill. I would get a meduim sized garbage can (5 gallon bucket may work, I do slightly bigger) and fill it with about 8-10" of moist potting soil (Supersoil) packed down a bit. Stick in a small plant, making sure she can't climb it and get out, and like Dennis said, leave her alone. It shouldn't take long for her to dig a proper hole and do her thing. She'll probably dig all the way down to the bottom of the soil and fill it in completely after she lays. If possible, weight her real quick (in grams) right before you put her in the bucket to lay. How old is she?
