Just by a quick response, how many of you know about the change in RBC morphology when animals are bitten by crotalids? I work in 2 animal hosp and we use echinocyte tests as a probable indicator in crotalid bites. the RBCs basically change into echinocytes (spiky balls) and a count of over 80% is usually indicative of a bite. Some texts agree, others disagree. Thoughts about this? I am starting some basic research and would love feed back. Thanks, don
