I went cruising tonight outside of town (southern california, near Mojave) and found some mojave rattlesnakes (C. scutulatus). The first was a roadkill, the second a small one, maybe a foot and a half. Then we found two babies, 8 inches long and as thick as my pinkie, with only a button on the tip of the tail. Seemed to early in the year to find such small snakes, but we also found a tiny glossy snake out there as well. All in all a good night, and the batteries on the camera died when photographing the first snake. Just my luck.
