HELP! Boa not feeding

John921 Mar 20, 2004 06:53 AM

Hello
I have a boa that has not fed in two weeks. Should I be concerned? My boa was put into a new cage (larger then his old due to growth),and has feed once in his new environment then hasn't aten since (two weeks, going on three). All the environmental variables are the same: 95 degree hotspot, 'bout 80 degree coolside. He now has both undertank heating and a red 60 watt bulb, where previously only had undertank heating. Could this be a factor, or possibly he just needs time to adjust to his new cage? Any thoughts will be helpful.

I don't see too much reason to worry yet.
As long as you have the environmental things taken care of.. temps, humidity, fresh water and available hide spots, and there doesn't appear to be any other signs of health problems, than going for 2 to 3 weeks without eating for some boas can be OK. I would also think that the boa just might need more time to adjust to the new home. I also would suggest not offering food every day after they refuse the first time (if you are doing this).. that could also stress the snake.. I usually wait at least a few days or even a full week if the snake refuses on it's scheduled feed day.

good luck,
Patrick
