help with heat in outdoor sulcata habitat.

Nikki22 Mar 20, 2004 08:06 AM

Hey guys,
I am wanting to rig up some type of heating for my sulcata tort's outdoor enclosure. He has a 12 X 12 pen with all the appropriate predator protection. Right now we are still in the I rush home from school when the thermometer hits 70 to get him some outside time but pretty soon it's going to be in the 80-90's most of the day and I want him to be out. Problem being we live in the country thirty minutes from town and it can be like 50 when I take off for school at 6:30 a.m. So I'm thinking If I could heat his dog house? or a particular area of the pen I could put him out before I leave. I have an electrician friend who is going to run the electricity to the pen I just need to know what is safe and best to use. I think I've heard pig blankets before???

Welcome any help!

Nikki

Hi Nikki,
The pig blanket & a heatlamp, on a timer/thermostat would be good, but you might also consider a small propane heater (with a thermostat). I live in the country too, & sometimes the electricity can be unreliable.
Good luck, Max
