Not Eating???

fadetolemons Mar 20, 2004 09:33 AM

Ok, I have three geckos, Stamps, Wedge and Treble. Recently they've been eating a lot as a group, they had like 40 crickets or mealworms within a 24 hours period this week, and they keep goin w/ about 30 a day, which isn't bad considering they're probably a month and a half old. So anyway, I was noticing some things-

Stamps- Looooves mealworms, doesn't get too interested in crickets
Treble- Will eat anything! he had about 12 crickets/mealworms in one sitting the other night, and i had fed him all day
Wedge- doesn't eat much, at least not when i'm around, i got him to eat one cricket yesterday or the day before. Also The other 2 sit under their little log hut over the heat pad, and he stays across the other side of the tank under a big rock all the time. Do I have a problem?? In one meal they'll eat like 15-20 crickets/mealworms, but he will only have eaten one of those. I'm worried! should i tak ehim to the vet?

I'm definitely not a lizard specialist but i do have some exp. I wouldnt worry yet. But as soon as you see some sign of thinning then its the sign thats something wrong. My collared lizard can go three days sometimes without eating much then eat a lot some other day. Maybe you should try to feed that baby in a separate container ? I know that it does work for some.

Hi

I agree with the other poster. It sounds like that gecko could be, being intimidated by the other two geckos and you should try to feed him in a container by himself.

Also, make sure he is getting his share of the heat in the basking end. If he is not getting his share then maybe the other two could be intimidating him in that respect also and if this continues to keep up, he may need his own tank.

One more though, if that gecko is a lot smaller in body size that also could make a difference.

Make sure you are dusting there food with calcium and also keeping a cap of calcium in there tank with them 24/7.

Alright thanks. He isn't really any smaller than the others though. Also, even when he's out of their site he still doesn't seem interested in eating, I'll try some stuff
