Misting system setup

BigChappy Mar 20, 2004 02:33 PM

Alright..Went to home depot today...Got a pump up sprayer..Sprinkler valve with male ends and some 3/4 to 1/4 female adapters..also picked up a 6 station timer. Alright now the tricky part..The sprayer comes with 1/2" (I believe) tubing that that handle is attatched to...Should I just cut that and run it into the sprinkler valve with a 1/2 to 3/4 adapter? I'm picking up a misting head kit that Doug Barr sells from this pet store but I'm not sure what all it has in it. I'm just trying to get all my stuff together...Built two 2x2x4 screen cages yesterday and got all my lighting stuff done. Just need some help with my misting system. Thanks y'all.

Hey, I just went through the process you're talking about. I cut the hose to the sprayer, used a barbed fitting to 5/8" female(I hooked mine up to a washing machine solonoid* ) and used a good hose clamp to keep her from leaking. I believe the Barrs kit you're getting comes with everything else that you'll need, I'm extremely happy with the nozzles I got from him.

Good luck.

The one thing i'm worried about is that i have a valve with male ends so i don't know if i can find a fitting that is female and will take the tubing from that sprayer.
Thanks,

tell us more about the washing machine selenoid...what voltage does it need, any problems with the minimum flow rate? this sound great...cheap digital lawn timer and a washing machine selenoid.

thank you

The washing machine solenoid takes 110 volts. I have a line cord connected to it, which plugs into the lawn timer. I'm only connecting this to three misting nozzles and haven't had a problem with flow rate. The misting nozzles are about 6 ' from the ground. The only place I could find fittings was at home depot. I just went to the plumbing section and bought brass fittings. The solenoid I actually purchased at a hydroponics place in my area. It was a bit more expensive there, but saved me looking around elsewhere for it. As long as I pump up the sprayer once a day, I get 4 good cycles, two minutes long each.

Good luck
