Mating at such a young age??

HerpHelmz Mar 20, 2004 05:30 PM

Oh man, see yesterday I decided to try and put my Red-Bellied Turtle and my Western Painty in with my Mississippi Map Turtle, this was very interesting considering the fact that every time I tried to put the Map and the Painted together, they would practicly chase each other. Well that's exactly what they did the whole time they were in there, the Map chased the Painted, the Painted chased the Map, on many occasions I thought the Map was going to bite it, simply because it looked to be smelling it's leg and then bobbing it's head at it.

Well it didn't bite it, but at one point, the Painted followed the Map down to the bottom, and simply mated with what is obviously a "her". It didn't last long, less than a minute and then they went back up for air and down to try it again. The Painted has a split in half tail too. These turtles are all less than 5 months old. This is crazy.

Your turtles did not mate. Young turtles just mess around and tease each other. My 2 painted turtles do the same thing. Your turtles are no where near maturity, so its impossible for your turtles to be mating. They have to be in adulthood to be mature. No worries...
