I heard somewhere that if the UV light isn't within about 1 foot of the dragon, it doesn't do any good. Is this true? I'm about to start contruction on a new enclosure, and I want to figure out where the UV lamp will be. Thanks!

this is true. actually most bulbs actually loose their effectivness at about 4-6 inches. if you are going to build an enclosure it is very smart to use "zoo med powersun" bulbs. these are much stronger. they are self balasted mercury halide. i have a 5'x5'5' enclosre. i have 2 160w powersun bulbs(flood) and 1 160w spot(normal heat light--not power sun). the powersun bulbs supply heat, but their main function is to provide plenty of uv A/B, and they will actually be effective UPTO 6 FT...these bulb which i have just started using recently have also increased my dragons eating habits as well as his activness....good luck

Thanks for the info! I just looked at those bulbs and they look good. I think I'll give them a try!
