Neck Injury...

hades-raptor Jun 11, 2003 10:49 PM

I'm going to be picking up a retic this week sometime. Not just any 'ol retic, an 11ft tiger retic witha severe neck injury.

The guy just cant afford the time or money to get him fixed up, so he offered him to me. I agreed, I have to help out animals in need

Now.. here is the thing about this retic. What he thinks happened, is while the retic was in with a female she somehow broke his neck. I dunno if it's really broken, but something is seriously wrong with him. Evidence of the picture's below.

Any idea what CAN or SHOULD be done for this poor guy? He's been eating rats, but will no longer eat rabbits since the injury. As long as he's eating.. he should survive, right? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is a picture of how he layed before the injury.

That the second picture is him laying AFTER the injury. The first picture is how he was before. :D

Snake vet bills are really pricy. I'ts like, 60 bucks a checkup. Not that much money, but from my teenage point of view, pretty serious for all the snakes I have. I think you should take it to the vet. I know a lot of people say that, just to nip it in the bud-like. But possible broken bones seem kind of serious to me. Sorry I couldn't help, but what a neat looking snake anyway. Hope it lives a healthy life!

You'd have to have a vet x-ray it to be sure what's going on in there. My vet only charges 80$ for examination AND x-ray, so I guess I'm luckier than the previous poster.
But I think that correcting it, if it's possible, being very expensive. Unless there's a retic chiropractor in your area... OW.

Ugh my past herp x-rays have cost an arm and a leg. I had to get my old Jampea, Sebastian x-rayed. They did his entire body, and since they wouldn't let me help, and they didn't know what they were doing, they messed the first one up, and i had to pay for TWENTY SEVEN feet of x-ray... his total vet bill racked up 2K...

It might be good to keep in mind that some neurological symptoms that might be injuries might also be symptoms of virus infections that are contagious. If it is a virus...just because his cagemate doesn't show the same symptoms doesn't mean some other snake couldn't get infected by proximity to this snake.

I dont think it is an infection just an injury! You say it is eating still that is a plus! You should go get it check by a qualified herp vet though! Does it have bubbles coming out of its nose or any other sort of sighn for i.b. or any infection looks like to just a next injury I think he'll be fine but I could be wrong
