Ok, I think I got this one right this time. Once again here is a patchwork rat!!!

What planet did that come from!
DeMak
Not sure, but I know for sure that it is genetic. My friend has been breeding them for about a year now, but they are not good breeders and have very low number's of pups. They start off kinda normal and then the patchwork maze starts to appear. The design will also move around over time. I have other pics if anybody is interested.
.
Here is another pic of a different patchwork.

Yet another one. This was one was really cool.

Have to say that is the most uglest rat I have ever seen..not that I like the hairless ones to begin with.
Funny... I think I saw those at the South Mountain site. I believe that Don is breeding those. I personally think those and the completely bald rats are horrid. But to each their own I guess.BTW the vms site has a pic of genetic strain of mice he developed with crazy long hair. They look like little sheep dogs ( I am axaggerating a little but neat none the less)
I think you are correct about where they came from. These rats are from Don Shores collection and he Don Soderburg of South Mountain are good friends. They trade alot between each other so that is probably where they came from. I live fairly close to Shores house and am over there fairly often. I just thought the rats were the coolest things though. Oh and by the way, those are his pics also.
They are not Don's, I believe a friend of his breeds them.
They are not bad breeders. Like all hairless and strains of hairless, they seem to lack enough milk to keep their babies alive. So the babies have to be fostered out to already nursing "regular" mothers.
