"Hot" Females.

sutmae Mar 21, 2004 10:11 AM

In the leo manual it mentions about hot females, i.e females born from eggs incubated at predominantly male temperatures.

I have a female who was incubated to be male and although very calm when held seems to get a little stressed in the company of other females so she has been kept in her own viv. I decided to breed her this year but whenever she gets put near the male, either in his viv or hers, she becomes very aggressive towards the male, not the normal mating biting but propper fighting. The last time they were together she had the male pinned into a corner!!

Could this aggression come from the fact that she was incubated at higher temperatures or is it just her way of saying "I have a headache dear..." ? I`ve got some girls who like to have their own space and some who are complete extroverts but I`ve not seen any of them behave like she does to other females or males.

Thanks.

There is no such as hot females. They just took longer time to reach sex Matureity. I has 2 hot females they took longer than normal females. Are you sure female are appecting male? Sometime female are not ready to breed and reject him.

I'd have to disagree with you there. I've read many times that a hot female is a female incubated at higher then normal temperatures. This is supposed to be linked with behavior. The hot females would be more agressive, and not so friendly with the other females, and may not breed well.

Although, I could be wrong, and be all mixed up. But I'm pretty sure I'm right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Few years ago they think hot females are bad for breeding but alot of breeder found out that hot females can really breed but they takes longer to reach their sexually Maturity. A lot, breeder did not update about hot females on site yet from, what I seen. Ask Justyun about it, he has few hot females and I do. They still breed well but takes longer to reach sex maturity. Beavior can be Aessvive but when she is ready, she will appects male.

she will be 3 this summer... How much longer do they need to reach sexual maturity? I have seen my other girls play hard to get and get a little bit nasty if they are not accepting the advances of the male but this girl goes straight in for a fight when ever the male is near her, she has never tried to fight any of the females when she was housed with them she just never came out of her hide and never ate.

try use aressive breeder male than female is. don't put female in male cage and cause stress to female make her to be mad. So next time try male into female cage that what I do to hot females.

like i said, coolgecko knows what hes talkn bout hes been raising them for 8 yrs and breeding for 4 years. but any way not only put the female in the males enclosure do it in time intervoles. put her in for 5 mins (supervised). then the next time another 5mins, then 10 mins, and so on and so on. breeding an agressave female is justl ike breeding one from any other sort of reptile. they just need time to get used to the male.

I only ever breed in the females cages, I only tried her in his after she didn`t seem to be getting any calmer with him in hers.

And I always gradually introduce them, I learnt the hard way with one of my boas several years ago that some reptiles don`t like thier space invaded.

But I shall persist, maybe she`ll come around to him one day.
