1-how do you get a baby dragon used to feeding in a seperate container? right now Zeus eats fine in his cage, but he waits until i am out of the room to eat. i would be putting him in a rubbermaid container deep enough for the crix not to jump out.

2-when do you change from misting the babies to giving them soaks? i like the bathing tips from reptile rooms, just don't know when to try.

3-when can you start to feed babies silk worms? if any time, do you just feed them the approiate size (space b/t their eyes) no matter the stage of the silkworms?

thanks in advance!
and Zeus is doing great, had a nice long drink from misting this morning and already ate 20 crix in his first feeding of the day.

1. Why do you want to feed in a separate container? Is it because of the crickets? If so I woyuld switch to silkworms. I did thsi because it is a pain in the butt to remove the extra/left over crickets after each feeding! I also use shelf liner or paper towels for babies so you do not have to worry about them ingesting substrate with their meal.

2. You can start bathing anytime. Just make sure you stay right there. I also keep my hand under them so they feel more secure in the water. I have also have heard of people putting a washcloth under them so they have traction and do not feel so vulnerable. Make sure the water is shallow enough so they can sit comfortably without their nose going under water.

3. Silkworms come in all sizes. I would rec. the 1/2" size for babies. They are really little. That way they can grow while you are still feeding them and they won't outgrow your baby.

Just my opinions.

i was just curious on the container b/c i don't like chasing crix down at the end of the day. that is why i have been investigating silk worms...lot easier to chase down! lol.

I agree. I have been so much happier with silkworms instead of crickets. They are more expensive, but I only have two dragons so it isn't too bad for me.

Here is one of my babies. He is 6 months old and his name is Fuego.

ok, so for a 6 inch beardie, i want silk worms that are around 1/2 inch or less, right? but now the question is how many worms do they eat? i just need a range so i know how many worms to buy. and what do you do with the ones that get too big? cut them up?

it is funny how many other things you get to learn with a bearded dragon. lighting, veggie nutrition, how to grow and care for various bugs...and all i wanted was a nice lizard! lol, but is sure is fun!

Thank you, I am really happy with him and my other baby Spud. I am so attached to those two little lizards and I have only had them about 3 months. I have bought all of my silkworms from mulberryfarms.com and I have ben very happy with their service, but they are out of the size I want so I just ordered some from silkwormfarm.com. I will let you know how it goes.
