stirring the hybrid pot

jsnake77 Mar 21, 2004 04:37 PM

Ok so most people think hybrids are wrong we don't need to go in to that stuipd flame war. But most animals and a lot of plants are some form of hybrid. I feel that we should really be less concerned about hybrids which can be better then the orginal has no one heard of hybrid vigor bigger, better, and healthier.

We should be more concerned about excessive inbreeding(brother to sister) and linebreeding(father to daugther) trying to get that "perfect animal" seams no one ever thinks that inbreeding could be a problem. I read the threads below not one person ever brought it up. Indgos are very limited so what happens when they are so inbreed problems develop, I have farm animals as well snakes. I am always "out breeding" this does not mean I am breeding a hybrid it means breading to different lines so that inbreeding does not become a issue.

Zoos have the same problem. limited number of animals with a small gentic pool that they have to keep pure.

so if we should not breed hyrids (which i don't and won't do with my snakes) we should not breed morphs albino striped or anything but the pure normal animal because if any animal but normal get loose well then they will be the only ones to survive in the wild or we should not breed normals at all so if an animal does get loose they will die or be seen

Just a few thoughts from a inbreed reddnek
