tick on ball pythons head

sandfireman Mar 21, 2004 07:37 PM

hey guyz, i was handling my ball python today when i noticed a medium sized tick on his head. Its not little because i guess its been on there for a while. My snake was in a shed mode so he was in his humidity box the past couple days. He shed yesterday and I noticed the tick today. The worst part abot it is that it is right on his head like a centimeter away from his eye. When i saw it i got him out and checked him for more, by the heat pits, under belly scales and around his back. I don't know how he got this, so what I did was put a huge tupperware tub in there filled with water. I'm hoping that he gets in it and soaks the tick off. I dont realy want to pull it off because its by his head, he hasnt ever bitten me but he is pretty jumpy so im not gonna even try. Isnt there some kind of spray that kills them?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks ....chris

Get a pair of tweezers, grab the tick by as much of it's body as you can, then twist and pull at the same time. It will do more harm to your snake being left where it is. I have pulled ticks from wild caughts eyes quite often without problem. If you use any preperation to kill the tick, the chances are that the tick with stay locked on.
