Males in same cage? How long for Malis eggs?

mike3 Jun 12, 2003 12:29 AM

Hi I have a pair of breeding malis in a huge cage, 7Lx5Wx2H. Would it be ok if I have an adult male Saharan in the cage? I know your not supose to put males in the same cage but since the cage is big and the males are different uro species would there be a problem? Also, How long does it take for uromastyx eggs to hatch at 93 ,-2 degrees F?

i'm not positive about with uros, but with most lizards you never ever want to mix species in the same cage/ tank. there are certain illnesses/bacteria/etc that are carried by some species that, if another species are exposed to, can kill them. i would get the sahara his own cage just to be safe.

good luck with the eggs!! we love malis

you have mali eggs...so do I.....first time. Some of my eggs have a blue/green coloration "inside" them...is this normal? Secondly, did your eggs "sink" in a bit? some of mine have...they've sort of "colapsed" in places. Also, how hard are the shells of your eggs? i have a homemade incubator....do you use a store bought incubator? thanks so much....

mali eggs are suposed to take 60-70 days at 92 F.

My the thing you see inside of the eggs is the embreo. My eggs were starting to collapse so i added a little more moisture and they got nice and firm again. When i added the moisture all i did was spray the top of the deli cup lid once every day until they were firm again. I use a hovabator which i bought
!!!VERY IMPORTANT!!!
When the eggs hatch feed them dry poop from the parents. if you dont it will the babies will die. they will only want to eat the poop for the first few days.

Now for my question.
How long does it take to incubate Malis eggs at 93 ,-2 degrees. I really need this question answered because I am going out of town on day 44 and comming back on day 53 of incubation. Is this ok? If it is not I will try to transport the eggs to my friends house. If it is ok I dont want to go through transporting the eggs because I know lots of them would die in the process.

according to deer fern farms, it takes at least 55-65 days at that temp.
