Aspen

muirsean Mar 22, 2004 12:43 AM

Has anyone ever used aspen for bedding? I know cypress mulch is the recommended substrate, but I have access to plenty of free aspen bedding. Any input would be much appreciated.

Sean

I have used it many times but no longer do. It doesn't hold the proper humidity required for a tegu to properly shed and stay hydrated, like cypress mulch does. Every time I've used aspen I've had some sort of a shed problem. Never any with cypress though. It's too bad aspen does not work, it's alot easier to keep clean, but you really should use cypress mulch for proper care.

Thanks, I'll stick with Cypress.

What about the possibility of using the aspen, but also using cypress, just in and around the hide? Do you think that would provide enough moisture? Just curious.
