timor moniter info

beardieboyh14 Mar 22, 2004 07:15 AM

I recently acquired a female Timor monitor she is around a year old. She’s currently in a 10 gallon holding cell until I get the cage from a friend who said she had something perfect for her.
I know I cannot keep her much longer but for the time being she is in that...she is a little over a foot long snout to tail...but she’s almost all tail I was told by a few people i could hold her in the 10 for a short period at this size. She should be out of it within the next week or two but right now she seems content
She is eating and drinking ...she’s climbing running around...swimming...and she will let me hold her if I take the 5 minutes to calm her down

I am also thinking about acquiring the male the guy I got mine from. But I’m not sure yet…

I wanted to know where I could find a good care sheet on them cause I cant find a good one every thing is basic…and I know the basics (20 gallon tall I know)

Thanks much for any help that can be given

Ps for pictures email me

Did I read that right?? I'm certainly not an authority on monitors, but I not sure a 20 tall is adequete. I think Timors are pretty cool monitors as well and have tried to find info on them, unfortunately I have not found much either. I have seen your message posted by various individuals, but I have not seen any informative replys posted. I have seen a poster by the name of "bloodbat" posting some info on timors and I believe he has gotten eggs as well. He also has water monitors and I would assume he frequents "cybersalvator" maybe you could look there. I know this wasn't much help, but hopefully I have steered you to the right person. Goodluck with your new herp, Clint

I wasn't paying attention, if you look a couple of threads below, bloodbat has got a post about his water monitor, dorp him a line I've noticed him to be helpful. Clint

Don't bank on it, my male is 22 inches, and this species loves to run around. I wouldn't keep anything bigger than 14 inches in a 20 high. Keeping them will be a lot more fun if you don't shortchange them.

I'd go for a 40 gallon breeder at least for an adult. That doesn't really even sound big enough to me. I've got my male in something like a 100 gallon enclosure, and a friend who breeds these says that it would fit a pair but not a trio.
I have my foot long baby in a 10 gallon too, it really seems ok for the time being but I'm ironically also going to put her in a 20 high in a month or two. But an adult wouldn't be happy in that space.
Everything else you're doing is probably ok, just remember that these guys like a really warm basking spot, like 120 degrees.
Also, she probably isn't calming down in 5 minutes so much as tiring out. I'm going the slow and steady method with mine and haven't actually tried to touch her yet.

I keep my pair in a 260 gallon, 6'*29''*29'' and they love it. 10 gallon for an adult is like keeping you in a car, very confined, I hope you find some more space or it may result in an unhappy/unhealty timor. Id say as a minimum for an adult timor would be 4'*2'*2' which i think is 60 or 65 gallon, not sure.

Hope this helps
