What kind of snake is?

oskar79 Mar 22, 2004 09:44 AM

First, I’m sorry but my english is very bad (i’m spanish).

I’m looking for the kind of this snake.

I think it is a Lampropeltis Mexican Thayeri, but after looking for on Internet, I don’t differentiate if it’s a Mexican Thayeri, Mexican Greeri or Mexican Mexican (Mex-mex)...

That you think?

Looks like a Lampropeltis mexicana greeri to me. Could be wrong, but that is what it sure looks like. A nice looking one at that!!

As far as I understand Mexicana, Greeri, and Thayeri were once considered seperate subspecies. Now scientists just consider them to be different locality/color morphs of the same species (Lampropeltis mexicana). I think the snake in the pic is a Thayeri because Greeri normally have wider red saddles and a lighter ground color than the snake in the picture. It can sometimes be hard to tell the difference however!

Thanks for your answers.

Somebody has another different answer?

I think that could bee a Thayeri, because they have straight saddles and Greeri’s are more rounded, but the head is Greeri’s style!

Sorry my English… (I’m Portuguese)
