Question about heat....

windyj420 Mar 22, 2004 10:02 AM

I was just curious what wattage lightbulb everyone uses. I am fixing to move my guy to a 55 gallon and need to know what would get him hot enough at that distance. Also does anybody use night bulbs for night time? Thanks

...every type and wattage of bulb made by man for mine. The wattage you use must be tailored to the characteristics of your own setups: The height of the basking areas, the season of the year, the normal ambient temps of the room, the fixture/reflector type, and any other heat sources in the viv. I have to use under tank heaters in my viv's at night for a part of the year, as the night temps drop too low. I really recommend getting a passive temp gun to check out what you are actually providing, its the best $30 I ever spent.

Check those basking spots. I use a variety of heights, colors of rocks, etc to ajust my basking temps. ON one end of a 55 gallon tank, I have two basking spots, with an incandescent above each. On the opposite end, I have one incandescent with an undertank heater.
