feeding my HL

pc031378 Mar 22, 2004 12:05 PM

Are spiders ok? I know where my HL comes from there is an abundace (almost overcrowding) of black widows at night. But I am not sure if he would normally hide at night or what. Also does anyone know where to get other types of ants than harvester ants and if so what kinds.

Many of the non-harvester ant varieties are nocturnal so you won't see much of them in the day time. I have found that if you just dig a little in what looks like a likely ant hole you'll eventually find some other types. I live on the western edge of the Mojave and have found a couple types of very large carpenter ants that my HL's love. One type is just found in the ground, often near the roots of bushes. The other I have found beneath rotten logs partially in the ground.
If you go out looking you'll probably find something.

One thing I have noticed over time is that HLs seem to like variety, regardless of what you feed them. (mostly ants, but a variety of ants with a few other tidbits thrown in here and there).
