Hello,
For what reason would a gravid female lay an egg in the poop corner instead of the lay box?
I have two females that are both gravid, and they have both layed a clutch already (their first for each of them). both the clutches were in the lay box, so they have both used it before. the egg that was layed in their poop corner was a fully formed egg and everything (of course i didnt get home in time to save it ). anyone know why she would do that? Thanks

My guess is..when a female who is gravid isnt comfortable when laying she'll either retain the eggs and becom eggbound..of she'll lay them outside of the lay box..when my female laid her first clutch one egg was at one side of the rack and the other was up against the wall of the rack on the other side..her second clutch was laid perfect, make sure you have about 2-3 inches of whatever you're using in her humid hide, and the temps are right, i really hope this helps..and she lays her next clutch in the lay box...good luck melle

Thanks Tokay I dont know why she would feel uncomfortable, she gets along with the others and she has layed in the box before. and i do have plenty of medium in the hide for them. Maybe it was just a fluke thing, hopefully it wont happen again

That is strange? I wonder if one of the other geckos was in the moist hide when she needed to lay? I have a female that laid for the first time and she laid her eggs in the moist hide just like the female who has laid before.

Did you try and spray the eggs and put them in incubating substrate or were they completely shriveled?

Regards,

Terry

Yeah, the egg was pretty bad, it was kinda scrunched up in the corner and part of it was stuck against the wall and it was starting to shrivel. Thanks though Maybe there was one of the other geckos in the hide? dont know... well lets hope all goes well the next time around!
