Do tegus need darkness to sleep?

My tegu mostle burries itself and sleeps, or in its hide box, do I still need to turn off my UV at night, it is still very cold at night here and could use the extra heat.thanks. One arg. B/W tegu about 12 in.

As long as they have enough substrate to make a nice deep burrow and close off the entrance, they should be fine. They don't like light in their burrows, and they'll do whatever to make it dark. Sometimes they'll dig an L shaped tunnel to their burrow to block all light. Sometimes its my bedtime before Vito decides to head in, so I just leave the lights on. No problems.
