Do I look fat in this outfit?

IcedGoddess Mar 22, 2004 02:27 PM

I am still waiting on that shed I expected a few weeks ago. I've even started doubting she's pregnant, probably just because she hasn't shed yet. I took her out this morning and got a few pics of her....does she look pregnant to you?

She does have her nest box, and after her outing today she's been burrowing in it like crazy, so I'm still fairly confident that she's gravid, and she sure doesn't look like a snake who's only eaten 1 pink and 1 hopper in the last three weeks.

>>Diane,
I kind of wondered about my snow at that stage also.
Your snake does look gravid to me.
The back third looks a little larger then the middle and front.
I think you are in luck.

I needed to hear someone else say it.
She does act like it, I'm just tired of waiting
Last year at this time the eggs were incubating, I guess I'm just impatient.

I couldn't agree with you more... this "game" we all play has a number one attribute of PATIENCE! Heck, I thought it took a long time when I got my first trio of breeder mice... juvies all, and it took 2 months from purchase to babies... well jeepers.... now mice pop out all the time, but it's still a huge waiting game to get the snakes to breeding age, and then from breeding age, you have to wait until they are ready and willing to breed... then wait for the eggs to hatch and THEN.... the long wait for them to "pop". egads, why do we do this again? Oh yeah... those little snakey heads popping up out of the eggs and your heart goes Ka-THUMP... especially when you see that little baby with the obvious signs of some characteristic you didn't even know your snakes were carrying!

I have an adult corn who has been feeding great up until now. It recently went off feed about four days after a shed. I have had it for about two or three months (bought from a local pet store). Despite the fact that it hasn't eaten in almost four weeks now, its body shape looks very similar to your pic and it's been burrowing in the cage like crazy. Is there a possibility that it picked up a sperm packet from a male and has been holding it until now? Just curious. Thanks.

David.

I've heard of corns laying a second fertile clutch without a second breeding, so it is entirely possible that she's gravid. I'd give her a nest box, if she is gravid, she needs it, if not, she'll probably enjoy it anyway so it won't hurt at all.

Good luck!
