Vinegar to clean tank

CluetheCanadian Mar 22, 2004 03:29 PM

I was just wondering if this was true, does vinegar clean the white water scum off the tank? Is using vinegar harmful to a RES? Just thought I would check it out before I tried it.
Thanks

It is excellent for scum, and the only thing it can do to your water is lower the pH, although you'd basically have to pour a bunch in there to really affect it.

I never would have believed it, but it works great. I try not to get any in the water, but it is not harmful to the turtles.

Vinegar is great. I use white vinegar to clean the tank and things in it (and rinse well afterward). I`ve also read it can be used instead of aquarium salt to improve tank water (but I don`t know what the proportion of vinegar to water should be).

Thank you all for responding. Glad to hear it is effective and doesn't harm turtles.
Thanks again,
Sarah
