Help! bleeding mouse!

polosue25 Mar 22, 2004 08:08 PM

I've kept mice for years and thought I had seen it all but today I found blood in my Egyptian spiny mouse's bedding, and in looking at her found it was coming from her vulva area. Since there's no rodent forum I'm wondering if anyone here has seen this before. I've had spinies for 5 years and bred them, and regular mice for even longer, but i have never seen this. She's about 3 years old (lifespan 3-6 years), lives alone and has never been bred. The blood was pretty bright, and when i wiped off the drop that was there a bit more appeared, then she cleaned herself and it doesn't seem to be any worse at the moment. I know dogs can sometimes bleed in heat, could this have anything to do with cycling? I'm at a loss as to the cause....just hoping it isn't hemorrhaging somewhere, she's my baby!

There should be a rodent forum on the exotic page. I have had female rats that have bled and it was most likely overy(sp?) cancer. It is common in rats, I don't know about how common it is in mice.
