humidity

I'm a new bp owner. How high can humidity be for a ball python? Is 75 to 80% too high?

50-60% when not in shed is fine.
Bump up to 79% when not in shed.

I believe (not totally sure) that a constant humidity that high is not good.

Does it lead to respiratory problems or skin diseases? I have read everything I can about BP, but this is my first and don't have "hands on experience" with them. I also can find a definitive answer on humidity. I have one reference that says 74% humidity, another that says 60%. I found a variety of advice on the internet, too. My vet says he thinks it might work, but he's not sure about humidity either.

Anyone know for sure about humidity? I have him in a tall cage (48" tall, 36" wide, 24" deep custom by cagesbydesign) with my BRB. He's at the bottom of the cage, and the BRB hangs out on a ledge in the center, or at the top most of the time. Humidity is between 70 and 80.

The two snakes don't disagree, but I'm concerned about long term habitat for my ball.

Gosh it is such a nice setup, I guess I'm hoping it will work out.

BTW, I've had my BP for a month, and he's eating fine, and is about to go into a shed.

I know what you mean! You go through caresheet after caresheet and they almost all can say conflicting things about humidity and temps which can make it more frustrating. I think the key is to not go too extreme either way and you'll be fine. I keep mine in the 60s as far as humidity goes which is probably about as high as you should go. I would say staying between 50% to 70% is good. Going too far above or below that may end up causing some problems. Hope that helps.

I think it can lead to RI - not sure.

You have 2 snakes in the same cage that don't have the same environmental requirements and would never meet eachother in the wild - I won't even go into how wrong it is to even have 2 snakes together......

Watch that height with your BP. They may like to climb, but they can be clumsy and a fall from that height could be nasty. That height is great for a BRB, but not so much for a BP.

Agreed. I was just so hoping the two could mesh. I mean, it would have just been so cool. Not a bother, though. I'll keep my ball on his own! I'd rather have a live snake, than a cool setup.

Thanks all

good to hear....I think that's a great idea.
