question for the pro's.....

cmsuphoto Mar 22, 2004 10:19 PM

Hello, I'm AJ, been on here a few times, had to spend some time on the new job I just got (police officer) and now that things are settling down, I'm gonna start posting again. Here comes the first round of questions...

First off, bedding. Anyone ever used shredded paper as bedding? Right now I'm on Lizard Litter, but at my work, we shred a ton of paper, and I figured if I could get ahold of that, I could use it as a cheaper (i.e. free) substrate. Anyone ever tried that?

Second, and I guess final question of the night...anyone start breeding yet? This weekend I'm going to be introducing my males to my females for the year, and am looking forward to some interestin offspring. Here's my crosses, and you try to figure out what I'm going to get...

Snow male to a double het female
striped amel male to ghost het motley female (they had some wierd babies last year)
creamcicle male to anery B female (What the hell is this gonna do?)

Any thoughts, concerns, (yes, there's a hybrid in there, sorry) or pre-orders, email me or reply! I also attached my favorite picture of my ghost female.

hi, i'm not a "pro" but i can answer most of the questions

I have heard of people using shedded paper as a substrate and have never heard anything bad about it so try it and see how it works for you. as long as there are nor chemicals in the paper they should be fine except cleaning may need to be done slightly more often.

I have started breeding, my male has already bred my friend's okkeetee and my caramel het butter. he may have also bred my charcoal but i'm not sure, i didn't catch him like i did the others.
As far as your crosses...asuuming that neither parent is het for anything other than what is mentioned

>>Snow male to a double het female
~you should get normals het snow, anerys het amel, amelshet anery and snows

>>striped amel male to ghost het motley female
~should get normals het amel, ghost, stripe and normal motley stripes het amel, ghost b/c a snake cannot be het for both motley and stripe

>>creamcicle male to anery B female
~normals(rootbeers?)het cream and anery b, possible cream blizzard project... just remember that all babies are still hybrids as well no matter how much corn is put into the mix

Good Luck!

Been breeding... I'm waiting on two females who should lay any day now, and most of the rest within the next month or so...

I even know some people who have eggs already.

Yeah, I feed in a different container. This weekend is my weekend for breeding, so it should be interesting. Let me make sure I have this right in my head....

ghost to striped

aj...i experimated with shredded paper and i found it killed my mice, too much dust.so i took my snakes off of it after only 2 weeks.i was using unprinted newspaper and then shredding it, so it may have more dust than office paper.it's hard to beat aspen.
