Scaphiophryne genus (burrowing frogs) question

tuwhada Mar 22, 2004 10:20 PM

I currently have 1 ornate burrowing frog (and man is he lonely)and I was hoping to setup up a little colony of these guys. Now I know mixing species of frogs is bad... however there are a few species with in this genus including the green burrowing and the ornate burrowing. Does anybody think I could keep a pair of each in the same enclosure or does that fall under the don't mix species concept. Plus I have been having difficulty finding friends for these guys and I would prefer cb ones if anybody knows of where I can get them that would be great. Otherwise I guess I will just keep 4 adults of the ornates together. Is there anybody out there that keeps them succesfully???
Thanks
Christina

I doubt that your frog is lonely. I know of no frogs that are socisl, unless it's mating season. And if you do have them together and they do mate, be prepared for months and months of tedious tadpole raising! Not to discourage you from breeding in the future, but it is a ton of work. I'd just keep the frog alone for now; they only see other frogs as competition for food, or am impedence to them getting food during hunting.
