Help on a new enclosure

demiturtle Mar 22, 2004 10:33 PM

I plan on getting a pair of Boa constrictor c. And I want to build them each a cage with the dimensions of 72x36x36. What would be the best material to do this. I can get many types of wood or plexiglass. I might also be able to get melamine, but i'm not sure what it is. Any thoughts about materials, construction, lighting/heating, waterproofing, and ventilation would be a big help. Thanks.

Welp, I am putting the finishing touches on my first attempt at building my own enclosure. One piece of advice I will give you....STICK WITH THE ORIGINAL IDEA!! My enclosure has undergone a metamorphisis about 14 times throughout the build process. I'm not 100% satisfied with the finished product, but I'm not unhappy either. Do some research, look at a lot of enclosures, borrow ideas you like or you think will function well, and get after it. I can say this, melamine isn't the greatest stuff in the world to work with, and you had better stock up on saw blades. After ya mark your cut, use masking tape over the mark, and go slow, this prevents a lot of the chipping.

Most of all have fun.....it is a rewarding process!
